Ted Nugent is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and political activist. He rose to prominence as a member of ‘The Amboy Dukes’ rock band. His solo albums include Cat Scratch Fever (1977), Free-for-All (1976), and Weekend Warriors (1978). Nugent was born Theodore Anthony Nugent on December 13, 1948, in Redford, Michigan. His parents were Warren and Marion. He has three siblings, John, Jeffrey, and Kathy. Nugent moved to Palatine, Illinois as a teenager. There he attended William Fremd High School followed by St. Viator High School. He also studied at Oakland Community College in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Nugent began playing music at a young age. His instrument of choice is the Gibson Byrdland guitar. He formed his first band ‘the Lourds’ in his early teens. Nugent served as the lead guitarist and composer for the rock band, The Amboy Dukes. The group was active from 1964 to 1975. They signed with Mainstream Records in 1967 and released their self-titled debut album. Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes released a total of 7 studio albums. Their popular singles include “Journey to the Center of the Mind” and “Baby Please Don’t Go”.

Nugent made his solo debut in 1975 with Epic Records. His self-titled solo debut, Ted Nugent, was released in September 1975. It was led by the singles “Stranglehold” and “Hey Baby”. His sophomore effort, Free-for-All (1976), saw similar commercial success. Nugent’s best-selling album, Cat Scratch Fever, was released in May 1977. It peaked at #17 on the Billboard 200 and was certified 3x Platinum. Selected albums include State of Shock (1979), Scream Dream (1980) and Shutup & Jam! (2014). Nugent also performed with the rock supergroup ‘Damn Yankees’ alongside Tommy Shaw, Jack Blades, and Michael Cartellone. Their eponymous debut album ‘Damn Yankees’ featured the hit single “Hard Enough”.

In addition to music, Nugent has been featured in several films and television shows. His screen credits include Miami Vice (1986), A Nightmare on Elm Street 5 (1989), and Beer for My Horses (2008). He’s also authored a handful of books including God, Guns & Rock and Roll (2000). Nugent is an avid bowhunter and political activist. He supports gun ownership and is a board member of the National Rifle Association.
