Why Rimi Sen quit Bollywood

Rimi Sen was on top of her game when she decided to take a step back from acting. Of course, we all may know her by her cult hits, but at that time, the actress decided to pack and retire early owing to a variety of reasons. Here's all you need to know about Rimi Sen's short but successful career.

For those of you living under a rock, Rimi made her Bollywood debut with 2003 superhit Hungama. Co-starring Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani & Paresh Rawal, the film went on to become her big ticket into the indstry.

Following the success of Hungama, Rimi took up more projects, including, Golmaal, Dhoom, Phir Hera Pheri, Kyon Ki and more, with most of them being labeled as a 'cult' films in today's time. She starred alongside Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Shahid Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and more superstars, living her best life as she enjoyed a good eight years in Bollywood.

What made Rimi quit acting?

Only after eight years in the industry, Rimi decided to retire from acting. 'Lack of interest' being her reasoning!

In an interview with Etimes, she went on to claim that, "I had lost interest in the film industry. Offers had got repetitive; I was getting roles in only comedy films. I had started my career in the top bracket, so I couldn't go further up nor I could afford to go lower."

Talking to Bombay Times, she said, "Today you see a blend of entertainment and meaningful content and people aren’t labelling actors or putting them in a box. Everyone can do everything. In my time, there was no creative satisfaction somehow. I quit

Bollywood because I was done playing glamorous flower pots in films. It was boring to be solely used as a glamour prop or be told to take a hankie and fake cry in the background while the hero took centre stage. I want to make a comeback not for survival but to be proud of the films I choose. I am proud of my films like Johnny Gaddaar and Sankat City but sadly these films didn’t do well. Thankfully, filmmakers have a different vision now and audiences’ outlook towards cinema and content is also evolved. People are more open to new ideas.”

After a decade of stepping away from the limelight, Rimi Sen seems to be planning on making a comeback in showbiz. She also seems to have her hands in production, producing two web shows.
